A Visit with the Masters

We went to the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for an afternoon and casually wandered through the gallery examining the various art pieces from many Masters. Though there were many, many pieces, I have included my favourites below.
Ilse and I are standing in front of this comb-looking structure
just outside of the gallery entrance.
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia has the permanent display of  Maud Lewis'
art and housing the Lewis house in all its glory.
The one-room house was also Maud's canvas for much of her folk-art.

There are two themes of paintings that appeal to me. One is houses and the other is trees. I often wish that I could paint pictures of trees. I find them very interesting even without their leaves.

Sunglow by Arthur Lismer 1915

The Big Tree by Ernest Lawson 1913
Jack Pine by Arthur Lismer 1920

Silver's Hill, Dartmouth, N.S. by Henry M. Rosenberg 1920

House and Clouds by David Milne 1933
     Other pieces I liked:

Pierrot by George Barbier 1928

Peacock Tail Plate by Alice Egan Hagen 1915

by Ferdinand De Brakelleer

Old Time Sugaring Party by Adam Sherriff Scott 1945
This is a typical scene in Quebec during the maple sap gathering at that time.
Below are pieces from the Light Fantastic exhibit

Art galleries also have new exhibits to complement their permanent ones. There are also many smaller galleries in the province. Stop and visit any one of them. You may be surprised at the talent on display.
