Creative Montague

For such a small town, Montague has many talented people. Art pieces are all over the town. It is very enjoyable to walk through the town looking at the art on the sides of buildings, etc. Most of the art depicts life in the community, current or past and the resources that they made their livelihoods from.

Here are some of the pieces you would see in Montague.
Many store front windows are painted with sign or scenes of the community

This young artist carved the bust of the man who
once lived in the house you see in the background. It was very interesting
to watch this sculpture develop over the weeks.
His next project was carving an angel on the front lawn of a
street not far away.

The next couple of photos show an interesting sculpture of fish
jumping out of the water. They look like huge monsters jumping out of the
ground but it is only a tribute to the fishing industry.

This is another interesting art piece. It is made of stone tile and the history is
captured on each tile. Below are a few examples of P.E.I history.

"The number of island farms in 1951 was 10,157
In 2011 only 1495 remain"  Sad!

As you cross the bridge in Montague you see three cormorants sitting on poles.
They are very abundant in the area especially in the harbour and rivers nearby.

Carving of a seal at the town harbour

Remembering that 2017 is the centennial anniversary of the Town of Montague this is a brilliant way to show the history of a town. Tourists and residents will have all this art as a memory of the town.
