My goal on the trip from Paradise, NL to Montague, PEI was to pack a bento box for our lunch each day. That would be thirteen days. They were packed the night before and stored in the cooler that we keep in the car for easy access. I tried to have a variety of foods each day with different colours, textures and tastes while trying to keep it as healthy as possible. The bento boxes worked well. There were also a few treats added for variety. With a little bit of planning the challenge was a success. Only one day we went without a bento box lunch and that was the day we ate lunch at Rita's Tea Room.
Orange things are carrot curls |
Salad added. Dressing kept in small container and added just before eating |
Leftover meat dishes used |
Small cans of Coke were a treat. |
Variety of sandwiches uses on several days. As you can see the size of the sandwich is controlled by the size of the box. |
A variety of grain items were used: tortilla, bread slices, buns and crackers |
Left over rice and quinoa dishes can be added to salads |
Cherry tomatoes were a staple for most of the lunches |
Yes, an empty box. This is the day we went to Rita's Tea Room for lunch |
Cut up cheese added |
Pasta dishes added along with salad and veggies |
Crackers, veggies and hummus |
Various nuts were included in most days |
Great idea. We've only had bento boxes from sushi restaurants. Everything looks yummy!
