Hiding within the bedding in the trailer
As you recall, we adopted a 12-year old cat in January of 2022. Peanut came to us through the Ontario SPCA when her owner passed away. Peanut is a shy, skittish cat but she is lovely. On our travels to BC, she has accompanied us the whole way. I am sure that she would prefer her permanent place in our home in Ontario but where we go she must come. She has adapted quite well to the routine of travel. Up in the morning, breakfast and into the crate she goes for her day of travel in the van. Rarely does she make a sound. The crate is placed in behind the front seats where we can see her and talk to her. She has water and treats in the crate for her to enjoy any time. When we stop, we put her in the trailer and let her roam freely, getting food, use the litter box, a little nap or the loving pat and cuddle from us. At night she sleeps with us and the next day the routine is repeated.
While on the road, this is where Peanut stays.
"I am comfy on this bed..."
"or my own bed is just as good..."
"or on the foot of a recliner. Whatever is available. I am good."
"Don't disturb me."
There is always a good lap to find too.
"Aw!! Hi!!"
We have enjoyed having Peanut with us on our travels and she is very good about being in the vehicle while moving and has accepted the trailer as her temporary home. We just have to be mindful of the time and giving her a break. While living in Kamloops she adjusted quite easily to the new environment. Travelling with an animal can be difficult but so far we have had a good experience.
