One day in July, we travelled a short distance to the Town of Wakefield. We walked the main street and took in the quaintness of the town. The town had one of Quebec's covered bridges. We had lunch at a picnic table on the main street and observed the remnants of the old train line which is now a walking trail.
As the day wore on, the temperature rose but we continued on to our next adventure which was a visit to Eco Odyssee. This marshy area is a vast water labyrinth comprising of 64 intersecting waterways spread out over more than 6.4 km where you can learn about the rich diversity of plant and wildlife living there. You can choose to travel through this maze by paddle boat, canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board.
So on this very hot afternoon, we chose to take the ecotourism venture by paddle boat. For 2 hours we churned the water to manoeuvre the boat with our feet. The adventure included a route that we had to take and answer questions concerning the wildlife in this environment. It was a sweaty job but we enjoyed seeing the frogs, turtles and various plant-life. We had great fun trying to manoeuvre the boat around corners and just ending up going in circles until we could make the boat turn in the direction we really wanted it to go.
Although it was busy, there were different routes and we occasionally met up with other boaters trying to do the same as us. All in all, we had a great time!
A & P (our little cat mascots) are holding up the route of the maze that we are to follow
Starting out in our adventure through the maze of waterways
It was hard work paddling for 2 hours
Here we met up with some people in a canoe and another paddle boat
One of the several types of turtles living in the area
We saw a variety of plant-life.
Frogs were abundant
Luckily we had cover from the sun. Still it was hot and sweaty
A & P enjoying the ride.
Too bad they couldn't paddle to give us a break!

It is so nice to have a variety of nature activities to choose from and Quebec has many!
