1. Things made from an old Table cloth (3)
This oval table I bought for $4.00 at Value Village. The glass circle is the table top of our kitchen table. I was using it as a pattern to make a small table cloth. |
I made two napkins to go with the small table cloth
A pouch using the same material to hold the strap of my purse when not in use. |
3. Black out curtain for bedroom: (1) We will be able to take them along with us to the next place and use as well.
5. Bed Skirt: (1) For less than a one year use buying a new bed skirt would be too much and trying to find one at a thrift store was next to impossible. At a thrift store though, I did find one panel of a curtain that actually would match the room colour. So I cut it and sewed it and tacked it on the bed frame and voila! You have a bed skirt.
6. Picture Frame: (refurbished one) A friend gave me this old frame that she was not using so I painted it and put in photos of sunsets from the places we have been. The frame is now hanging in our trailer. Although this is not a sewing project, I am including it on my list. I had to take it all apart, clean and sand it, then paint it and put it back together.
4. Cat Nip Balls: (dozens made) The SPCA Fredericton has a fund that assists with the financing of surgeries for cats. I was asked by a volunteer to crochet balls for them to stuff with cat nip and sell at fairs, etc.
I started out making them small round balls but..... |
They wanted the balls bigger so I did |
The old curtain I bought from a thrift store for $3.00 |
Here is the bed without the bed skirt. You can see the boxes we are storing under the bed as well as the big leg support posts. |
Here is the bed with the bed skirt. Looks much better! |
7. Bibs: (made 2) Again, this bib was already cut out by my mother. I just put it together. I believe that there are a few more to be sewn.
8. Curtains: (made one set from scratch and hemmed up two for friends)
To brighten up the inside of our trailer which is the typical browns and beige, I made this bright colour curtains. Lots of material leftover so I will make some other things to add to the decor. |
The curtains have the sort of the same design as the comforter that came with the trailer. |
Here I am hemming my friend's curtains using my old sewing machine which is not working well. It was my first sewing machine that my mother gave me when she bought a new one. |
Along with another friend, we hemmed up her bedroom curtains so that they don't hide the floor heater. |
9. Pillow cases and foot throw: (2 pillows & 1 throw) I was teaching my friend how to sew using her sewing machine. First it was the curtains, and with leftover pieces of fabric we made two pillow covers and a throw for the foot of her bed.
10. Card holders (4) I use one for the car and one for myself and the rest I have given away.
11. Mug Rugs: (2) I am continuing to make mug rugs from old material. I have more ready to be sewn.
12. Computer Bag (1): I remember this striped material growing up. We had pillows made of this material in our recreation room. I sewed them together so that it looks like a weave. My computer and accessories all fit inside.
13. Hot Water Bottle Cover: (1). I always remember my Mom had several hot water bottles that had a cover on them but they are now long gone. Al is always complaining of cold feet so I bought a hot water bottle and covered it with a pocket in the front to store the plug with the words, "warm toes".
14. Bartering with Repairs: During one appointment with my naturopath, I was asked if I had any skills that I could use to barter for treatment. I said, "Yes, I can sew". She was thrilled and said that she had some items that she needed repaired so she brought me some things.
15. Quilts for the Grandkids: I have made 2 so far and 2 more to go. For years, I saved the old worn out and out grown jeans of my family members. As I got them, I cut them up into squares ready to make a quilt. I decided on a rag quilt. They are all made with the same fabric but each one has a different colour thread and an owl patch. Their individual names are embroidered on one block along with the owl patch.
16. More bookmarks (4) Made from leftover flannel. I gave them to the children in my congregation.
18. Doll's blanket (1) This crocheted small blanket was made from the baby yarn I received from a lady who worked at a nearby yarn shop. Below, A & P are keeping warm under the blanket.
19. Pin cushions: (2) These pin cushions are attached to the sewing machine for easy use.
This long pin cushion attaches around the base of your sewing machine and is readily available for use when sewing. |
Here is the second pin cushion. Same material just a different size and location on machine. |
20. Travel bag for our Dyson Fan (1). You are told not to lift the fan by the top and since the fan is tall and awkward, people always lift it from the top. I decided to make a hanging bag for it from strong fabric. Not only will this bag protect it from being carried incorrectly, but it will keep it dust-free when not in use.
21. Teapot Cover: (1) I made this for a friend with the leftover material she had from making an apron.
Here is the new "quarantine" look. |
Click here to see this funny sewing tutorial which is a good "bad example" on how to make face masks.
Another year is done.
After years of frustration and paying to repair my old sewing machine, I finally gave in and bought a new Singer machine. I am enjoying using it so much. |
