Performing For A Living

In July, while Bev was in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the weekend I headed down to St John, New Brunswick to experience the live street performances of Buskerfest.

I have been to several busker festivals before and mostly enjoyed them, although most acts fall into three categories: fire, juggling and circus acrobatics.  Sometimes, the act will consist of a combination of these.

This performer juggled large balls and also did fire juggling.
He also did some magic stunts.
This guy specialized in handstands and did many stunts while
only balanced on his hands.  Incredibly strong!

The Big Wheel act.  It must be very easy to get crushed fingers
or pinched skin until you get proficient!

A kilted, bagpipe-playing unicyclist.
Playing an extra-long didgeridoo, an Australian wind instrument.
There are no finger holes to vary the sound.  It is all done with the mouth.
More fire jugglers
At night, the "moon" is illuminated and is very impressive.
In my experience, most major cities seem to hold a busker festival every summer.  Plan to attend one.  They can be very entertaining.  It is like a small-scale circus event.

  1. Hello - I've enjoyed reading your posts about your time exploring New Brunswick. What a terrific idea to travel the country and experience each province in depth. You are role models for retirement adventure! I want to give you a heads up that the city in New Brunswick is spelled SAINT John, not ST. John. We have to be careful because there is a city in Newfoundland with a similar spelling, and travellers have made mistakes in the past. Thank you!
