Sandcastle

On a nice sunny day, we went to the Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition. Thousands of people attend this event each year. So many people and cars arrive that visitors must park along the road for kilometers. We counted more than 800 cars parked along the side of the road leading to the park. It is well organized. They have shuttle buses to transport people who are parked farther down the road and they have portable toilets at the shuttle stops. We got there early enough to be within walking distance to the park. Competitors of all ages come to build their best and boy, what a variety of castles and other sculptures were built! It was a great day and a nice way to see an annual event.

The all-important personnel needed at a crowded beach -- The Lifeguard.
There were individuals and teams working on their sculptures all along the beach
Each competitor had their own space to work and build their creation. The judging
was done in the afternoon so everyone had all day to work their magic.
Here are some of my favourite sculptures:
Parks Canada was there building their own version of a castle.
They also had the public come and help them with their entry.
They were more than willing to teach people how to work with the sand
and make round balls that would not fall apart.

Shield with emblem.
This is my all-round favourite.
The detail is amazing.

Mother breast-feeding child.
Nice Tower.
A Castle
Jaws
Nice carving technique.
Turtles?
Alien that just fell out of its spaceship.
Working on the Halifax Citadel.
An Aztec pyramid
Building giant chess board

     Let's bury someone:
Remember going to the beach and burying your Dad? Well, here is
a young Kyle, Aaron and Anne having fun burying Al.

A & P are keeping up the tradition
Here A & P have just finished their own sand castle.
People played in the ocean even when the tide was out.
So many played in the sand and ocean on that nice sunny day in August. A great way to keep cool.  This beach was as good as any we have ever been on, although the water could have been warmer. We had a great day! I would go to another sand castle competition. You never know what creations you will see.
