Wharf Rats

Each year before Labour Day, downtown Digby transforms into the meeting place for thousands of motorcyclist enthusiasts at the Wharf Rat Rally. The Rally was originally conceived as a free event bringing together riders of all types in a family-friendly environment.

September 2018 was the 14th annual Wharf Rat Rally. We had heard about the rally but we accidentally arrived in Digby on the same weekend as the rally. It was so interesting to see the enormous number a bikers all in one place. We took in some of the event as we were in the area.
Riding into Town. It is estimated that 50% of the riders were on
Harley-Davidson motorcycles, followed by Honda, Yamaha
and Kawasaki. Many of them are beautiful machines.

Bikes are everywhere
Nice colour!
Parked everywhere
A wave of bikes

So, the Rally has a mascot in the form of a large plastic rat. Here are some rats on display:

At the back of the bike.
Poking out of the saddle bag.
Showing off its teeth.
I found a store that sold the mascot rat. Now, it is in our
trailer sitting on the top of a window valence.
Even A & P became friends with our new Wharf Rat
"Forget the rat. I have my stuffed cat here to protect me."

Bev even got to sit down and talk to a young biker. He
is a mechanic by trade and enjoys biking. It was his
second rally.
Get off the bike and take off your boots.

There was a great display of unique bikes. Here are a few examples:

This one is very unique. It has wood paneling on it but the interesting
thing about it is all the weapons attached to it. Can you see them all?
The gun in a holster and bullets on the gas tank

The brass knuckles

Bullets and knife on the right side
Knife attached to side of gas tank.

A & P got into the act too.

Hanging out on a bike.

Just checking the tires.

Waiting for a ride!
"Hey, I can't reach the handle bar"

Good way to catch bugs with your teeth.
We had fun speaking to various bikers who were enjoying their time at the rally. The roads all around the Digby area were crowded with bikes touring the area.
