We revisited Cape Breton in October 2018 to experience the fall colours. If you recall, we did travel through Cape Breton in the Fall of 2017 en route from Newfoundland to Prince Edward Island. The colours were amazing but the weather did not co-operate much. It was rainy and foggy most of the time. While traveling along the Cabot Trail, we did want to do some hiking through some trails along the way, however it was not only the rain that detoured us. Many of the trails were closed due to aggressive moose behaviour during this mating season.

The Canso Causeway is a 1,385 m rock-fill causeway in Nova Scotia. The causeway crosses the Strait of Canso, connecting Cape Breton Island by road to the Nova Scotia peninsula |

Off the main road and through the hills. We took a dirt road that
twisted and turned up a mountain. There were only a few houses
on the road. We spent about an hour traveling on this road to its
dead end and then travelled back down to the main highway. We did
not meet any wildlife or people on this little jaunt. |

Brilliant! |

Caution: Watch for falling rock. |
During the summer and fall there were many parts of the road that were under construction, so at times we were going slow but most of the time we were able to go at our own pace watching the lovely surroundings. It was a nice trip even though the weather wasn't ideal. You make the best of what is presented to you.
