The Neighbourhood Has Gone To The...

...Kangaroos and Emus. As part of our travels with John and Lisa, we went to Donnelly River Village. The Village is a former timber mill town and present-day holiday village in the Shire of Nannup in Western Australia

It is a preserved mill town surrounded by Karri forests. Our interest at this village was not the trees but the resident wildlife. The streets of the village are filled with wandering kangaroos and emus. It is not uncommon to see the emus walking down the street, stopping at people's cottages to have a bite of some favourite food. Kangaroos are found lounging on front lawns or taking up residency in the backyard shed.

These animals are friendly and are willing to be patted or fed. We walked around among them and on our way out, John fed the emus pieces of apple from his car. We got a really close look at them taking food from his hand.

The majority of buildings in the village are built around a central Karri parkland which hosts an old playground called 'Belmont Park', as it was once renovated by volunteers from a school in Belmont, Perth. The central parkland has a 'chair' flying fox and other climbing equipment for children.
Cottages in the village, originally built mostly for timber mill workers, have been restored and now provide holiday accommodation.

A cute joey.

Everyone  had a chance to pet the kangaroo

These kangaroos are very tame.
What are you looking at?

A lovely small village which would make a nice vacation location. Oh, did I tell you that only one house has a TV?
