First Day in Australia

After a lovely 10 hour sleep, we headed out to visit with our Australian family.

The last time Al saw his cousins was in 1980 and it was great to catch up with them even though it was only for a short time.

With Aunt Sjoukje
Cousin Chris with his vehicle. Notice the car snorkel on the left front side of car.  He lives in the northern part of Western Australia where roads are sometimes covered in water after a hard rain.  The snorkel allows his truck to drive through it, half-submerged in water!
With cousins Dave, Ben and Uncle Arthur and cousin Andrea

In 2014, while in Edinburgh, Scotland we saw the Fringe Festival and we were very impressed with the street performers. Today was the middle of the two week Fringe World Festival in Perth.

We were eager to repeat our experience at this festival. Although there were not as many street performers as in Edinburgh, we did attend a performance of 6 Quick Dick Tricks: A Dirk Darrow Investigation. Tim Motley, the performer, adopts a tough-gumshoe guise for an impressive hour-long mentalist act. Like the private-eye game, it’s a dangerous business but Motley is an engaging performer, a little naughty at times, and the memory/illusion stunts are impressive. We would highly recommend that if you are anywhere around the world where a Fringe Festival is taking place -- attend.

We topped off the evening with some Australian cuisine
Interesting tastes and textures: Camel, Wild Boar, Buffalo, Emu, Crocodile and Kangaroo

  1. The last time a girl asked me for 6 Dick Tricks I ended up at hospital in traction.
