Through the Mist and Fog

Fog is the clouds that are not too proud to visit the earth.  Here in the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland, we have become accustomed to regular occurrences of fog.  "Fog City" is a nickname for St. John's which is so close to us. Usually, whatever weather they get, we get too, although since St. John's is right on the coast and we are a bit inland, they get a bit more fog than here. In an earlier post, I had mentioned that Newfoundland has an average of 206 days of fog each year and the St. John’s area has an average of 126 of those days. So we have seen more here than we have in our lifetimes.

Last night at approximately 10:30, I let the dog out the back and what I saw was amazing. At eye level, the fog was just rolling by thick and mysterious. It was not only rolling but running by.  This is a typical view from the back of our house during the day:

With the lights on in the ball diamond and the fog going by, it looked quite eerie. The lights through the fog looked like lights from alien ships. Oh, what an image!

Many mornings we wake up to fog but it quickly disperses and the sun will shine unless it is raining.

Rain and Fog is dreary
But when the sun peeks through
I smile at the warmth it will bring.   BV
